About
Dr. JoAnne Castagna
Thank you for visiting my website and taking the time to learn what I can offer your business…
I specialize in writing and marketing feature articles for organizations and I take great pride in how my work can contribute to a business’s eventual success.
In 2004, I wrote a feature article for an agency that has a program that protects ground water in New York State’s Catskill Mountains. It is a vital source of drinking water for millions of New York City residents.
“Protecting water quality in the model forest” was published in several magazines and newspapers including Northern Woodlands, Timber Harvesting, U.S. Water News and The Conservationist.
As a direct result of the article being published, I was flooded with calls and emails from readers.
They included forestry graduate students who wanted more information, a water management specialist who wanted permission to mention the program at a major water conference and an organization that wanted to partner with the agency on future water projects.
My specialty is taking subjects that are very technical in nature and transforming them into human interest stories that describe the subject matter in a way that is completely understandable, digestible, and most importantly relatable to readers. To read more visit my Testimonial Page.
Story topics I’ve covered include engineering, construction, environmental & wildlife preservation, solar power, technology, health, cultural preservation, education and art.
To cover stories, I’ve visited construction sites, military bases, environmental restoration locations, toxic cleanup sites and even made several trips to one of the coldest places on Earth – Thule Air Base, Greenland, located in the Arctic.
My work has been published in over 100 national and international magazines, newspapers, journals and books.
I also teach writing classes and have provided professional instruction at a variety of venues including The U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York.
An extension of me acting as an educator includes informing my industry peers about writing and marketing subjects. I’ve written articles for PR Tactics, a Public Relations Society of America publication, and intercom, a magazine of the Society for Technical Communication.
My educational background includes a Doctorate degree in Educational Administration, Master’s degree in Specialized Journalism, and a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts.
Besides my enjoyment of writing, I’m also a bird enthusiast. The two birds you see in this photo are Pink & Lee my Rosey Bourkes Parakeets. I wanted to incorporate something personal about me into my business name and this is how 2 Bourkes PR came to be.
